Salisbury Personal Injury Lawyer

Occasionally referred to as the "Crossroads of Delmarva," Salisbury was founded more than 280 years ago and later incorporated in 1854. Considered the commercial hub of the Delaware-Maryland-Virginia peninsula, Salisbury occupies an area a little over 11 square miles and has a residential population exceeding 30,000; it is the largest city in Maryland's Eastern Shore area. Salisbury's location at the head of Wicomico River no doubt played a pivotal role in the growth of the municipality over the years, following its modest beginnings as a small colonial outpost for Cecilius Calvert, more commonly referred to as Lord Baltimore.

With a humid subtropical climate, Salisbury is the principal city within the Salisbury Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is also the county seat of Wicomico County and home to the county's governmental offices, as well as the district court, orphan's court and Wicomico Circuit Court. The Wicomico County Courthouse, which is located at 101 North Division Street, is the setting for numerous criminal and civil legal hearings, including those pertaining to family law, traffic offenses, personal injury lawsuits and wrongful death proceedings.

With the population of the Salisbury metro area surpassing 125,000 people, commercial activities combined with various cultural events and other local attractions can add more people to an already busy urban environment, providing at times the ideal conditions for automobile, commercial trucking and pedestrian-related traffic accidents. Those traveling to and from points of interest, such as the Salisbury University Arboretum, Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, Chipman Cultural Center, Salisbury Zoo and the Port of Salisbury Marina are all exposed to potential danger that comes in the form of personal injury accidents.

In particular, collisions between passenger cars and delivery vehicles -- and even pedestrians and bicycle riders -- are often encountered in densely packed urban areas. Driver distraction is one of the most common causes of roadway accidents and usually involves a motorist who momentarily lets down his guard and subsequently strikes another car, truck, or person on foot or riding a bicycle.

As Maryland personal injury attorneys, the law firm of Lebowitz & Mzhen Personal Injury Lawyers, understands how a simple loss of concentration can lead to a serious auto or motorcycle injury accident. What we and many others find unconscionable are traffic wrecks caused by individuals who can only be described as aggressive drivers. It's no secret that aggression on the road has become one of the big issues on the minds of safety advocates over the past decade.

Also known as "road rage," aggressive driving is now considered a genuine threat to the safety of motorists and passengers traveling Maryland roadways and city streets. While certainly not a new problem, the increasing congestion of our urban streets, highways and expressways has been pointed to as one of the triggers for this type of behavior. In the past, a driver exhibiting signs of road rage was likely passed off as just another irritated motorist to be avoided, but as incidents involving serious and sometimes fatal traffic wrecks have escalated, so has the focus on making this kind of behavior a chargeable offense.

Although some people blame other factors -- from bad weather and driving conditions to the crush of rush hour traffic taking its toll on the psyche of overtaxed commuters -- many law enforcement agencies and traffic safety advocates point out that aggressive drivers typically fit into a particular behavior pattern; that of violent or visibly angry manner of driving that can result in a roadway collision or other traffic-related incident.

As drivers ourselves, we have all encountered a driver at one time or another who exhibits behavior that could be categorized as aggression on the road. Many years ago, we all may have looked past a single incident, but these days an aggressive driver can certainly make himself known by any one of handful of actions, including:

  • Use of threatening or obscene hand gestures
  • Verbal threats or the shouting of obscenities
  • Brandishing a hand gun or other weapon
  • Intentionally forcing a car off the road and causing an accident
  • Sudden braking, acceleration or intentional tailgating
  • Blocking merging vehicles or deliberately cutting off other cars
  • Continuous or excessive operation of high-beams or horn

The attorneys at Lebowitz & Mzhen have represented individuals hurt or injured as a result of car, truck or motorcycle accidents. Whether these crashes are caused by a deliberate act or through inattention or other kind of negligence, the results are the same. In most serious automobile or trucking-related traffic collisions, one or more the victims involved can suffer from a variety of injuries. From broken bones, fractured wrists or ankles and lacerations to very serious spinal cord damage and closed-head trauma, the potential for long hospital stays and expense medical treatment is very high.

Some of the more common types of injuries related to automobile or commercial trucking collisions involve those sustained to the neck and back. Every year, one million or more neck/back injuries resulting from traffic accidents are tied to the injury commonly referred to as whiplash. About 10 percent of these whiplash cases can lead to long-term disability.

Lebowitz & Mzhen has the skills and experience to handle all manner of traffic accident cases including those involving rear-end collisions and broad-sided accidents, both of which are commonly associated with whiplash injuries. If you or someone you love has been injured as the result of another individual's negligent actions you should determine your legal rights by consulting with a knowledgeable Maryland injury attorney.

The experienced lawyers at Lebowitz & Mzhen strive to provide every one of our clients our full and undivided attention. This applies as much to victims of automobile or pedestrian traffic accidents as it does to those hurt, maimed or killed as a result of hospital malpractice, pharmacy errors and pharmacist misfills, and defective appliances or other faulty products.
